A Kentucky Derby Celebration!
Every year I look forward to the Kentucky Derby and all of the amazing hospitality and fashion that comes along with it. While I wish I was able to bedazzle a fancy hat and hit the stands in person, a dinner party at home was the next best thing. If traveling to the derby in person wasn’t in your plans either, I hope you’ll enjoy some of the ideas I incorporated into our fete and can even keep them in mind for next year!
Some of the party highlights:
- Table settings using a mix of blue and white striped linens, the Kate Spade Charlotte Street North china which can be found at Bed Bath & Beyond, gold flatware, a piece of “turf” I turned into a makeshift table runner, and gold horseshoes which I found on Ebay.
- Some of the menu items consisted of “Run for the Roses” themed cupcakes, Bourbon pecans served in mini jars, Pecan rolls, Mint Juleps, and Chicken & Waffles with DIY “roses” toothpicks.
- DIY party favors filled with Godiva truffles, mini Jim Beam bourbon bottles, homemade Bourbon Chex Mix, and mini gold trophies (from the Dollar Store). The closest thing I was getting to anything “Kentucky” for the derby weekend was Kentucky Fried Chicken so I thought it would be funny to put the party favors in KFC cups and overall I thought they were the perfect touch!
